Globeform’s Top 50: Mastercraftsman Globeform Champion Juvenile |
|
The Irish trained Danehill Dancer colt Mastercraftsman achieved the highest Globeform rating among juveniles racing in Europe and North America last year. His impressive performance when slamming the Royal Ascot winner Art Connoisseur, as well as fellow dual Group One winner Bushranger, in the Phoenix Stakes (G1) in the summer, earned him the title Globeform Champion Juvenile 2008.
He had lost hos form when beaten behind another highly promising turf runner, the French trained Naaqoos in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (G1) at Longchamp in the autumn. A rematch this year, hopefully already in the 2,000 Guineas (G1) at Newmarket, would be a race many will be willing to travel a long way to witness. Unless, of course, one is heading to Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May. Where the likes of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Midshipman, Champagne Stakes (G1) winner Vineyard Haven and Remsen Stakes (G2) winner Old Fashioned could be lining up for the Kentucky Derby (G1). ‘Turn the page’ now to find out which of the three achieved the highest rating.
Top rated two-year-olds, Europe and North America, now posted.

Globeform’s Top 50: Curlin well clear - Globeform 134 |
|
Winner of the Dubai World Cup (G1), Stephen Foster Handicap (G1), Woodward Stakes (G1) and Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) last year, Curlin was a clear-cut Globeform Champion in 2008. Curlin was Globeform Champion also in 2007.
Having produced GF 134, the son of Smart Strike is rated four pounds in front of Europe’s best performer, the Derby (G1) winner New Approach, Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Big Brown and back-to-back Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner Midnight Lute. These three are tied in second spot on GF 130, ahead of Raven’s Pass, a top miler in Europe who became the first winner of a Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) staged over an artificial surface.
Europe’s top filly, the brilliant ‘Arc’ heroine Zarkava follows next on our ranking, on the same mark as Norh American racing’s leading lady, Zenyatta.
Globeform's Top 50 – Three-year-olds and older horses now posted.
